Caret Cellars is a veteran family-owned and operated vineyard and winery located just off Route 17 in Essex County, Virginia. Caret Cellars is an hour northeast of Richmond, 40 miles southeast of Fredericksburg and 70 miles north of the Tidewater area.
R.D. and Junghee Thompson purchased the land for the vineyard in 2006, planted their grape vines in 2007, and built their winery in 2014. They are pleased to offer a spot where locals and tourists can meet, drink wine and have a relaxing time in a friendly environment.
Raised in a farming community in Walla Walla, Washington, R.D. served in the United States Air Force for 25 years and worked as a government contractor before entering the wine business. Junghee has been a fine jewelry manager at the Quantico Marine Corps Exchange for over 20 years. Since planting the vineyard in 2007, both have been devoted to growing only the healthiest grapes which are key to producing great wine.
